Our Charities

                        Supporting Our Local Community

Sound Waves' primary function is to get together and sing but we try to support our local community whilst doing so. We sing at various local fundraising events and raise money for charity by asking for donations at our free concerts. Each year, at our AGM we choose different charities to benefit from our efforts.

We have raised over £22,500 since the choir began in 2009.

For 2023-2024 we have chosen two local charities which come under the umbrella of The Education and Training Consortium, Sussex. This charity was formed in 2008 to meet the training and educational needs of people from marginalised communities.

Firstly, we hope to raise funds for the “Happiness-in-Mind” day centre which is based in Marlborough House in St Leonards-on-sea. The centre provides older people, including those with dementia, the chance to enjoy some new activities away from home. The Service offers support and a wide range of different things to do within a comfortable, safe environment. The specially trained staff and calm atmosphere means that visitors can relax and enjoy their time whilst giving a much needed break for their carers.

The second part of the ETC to receive our backing is The Pantry, a food bank which is based in Prospect Place, Hastings. In the current cost of living crisis, this charity offers vital support to local people who may be experiencing food poverty.
